Young Women Meet Dr. Fulata Moyo at Wo In July 2017, Young Women met with Dr. Fulata Moyo, Programme Executive for Women in Church and Society at World Council of Churches, at World YWCA Safe Space and had an intergenerational discussion around religion and feminism. International Day of the Girl Child On October 11, 2017, the World Health Organization (WHO) hosted a high level panel to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child and two YWCA young women were invited to speak about their experiences working with the community World Week of Prayer On November 6, 2017, the World YWCA and World YMCA came together at the Ecumenical Center Chapel i Geneva to mark the beginning of the World Week of Prayer. Young People Rise Up at ICASA 2017 The World YWCA, as a partner in Jeune S3 alliance, lead a delegation of young people from DRC, CAR, Cameroon, Benin and Burkina Faso to attend the International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa which took place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire from 4 - 9 December, 2017 Youth Leadership for Peace! On November 8,during Geneva Peace Week, the World YWCA in partnership with Sonke Gender Justice,MenEngage Alliance and Mdp Gender & Diversity Hub organised a side event on "Building Youth Leadership to Prevent Gender-Based Violence and the Outbreak of Conflicts". Week Without Violence 2017 From October 16-22, 2017 the Week Without Violence aims to raise awareness on the stark reality of violence against women and girls and mobilize policy-makers to achieve change. World YWCA welcomes Japanese Peace Messengers On August 21, 2017, World YWCA welcomed 22 young peace messengers coming from Japan to advocate for ending nuclear weapons. World YWCA Board Meeting 2017 World Board Annual Meeting took place from July 24 to 27 in Geneva Switzerland. Safe Space in World YWCA Office Dr. Athalia Molokomme, Ambassador of Botswana, and Dr. Sharman Stone, Australian Ambassador for Women and Girls, were the first visitors to the newly launched safe space inside the World Office during the 35th session of HRC in June, 2017 Youth Voice at HRC35 The World YWCA co-hosted a side event on 8 June at the Palais des Nations during the 35th session of the HRC to highlight the outcomes of the Youth Forum with a special focus on SRHR as the building block to all other forms of empowerment. HRC Youth Forum 2017 On June 2, 2017, the World YWCA hosted its second annual Youth Forum preceding the June session of the UN Human Rights Council. The forum gives youth a much-needed platform to discuss human rights and influence decision-makers. Interactive session with YWCA of Canada in CSW61 Young women from the global World YWCA network and labour movement discuss their experiences in an interactive session focused on the ongoing change in the nature of work impacts economic empowerment for young women. International AIDS Conference (IAC) 2016 For the 21st International AIDS Conference, 20 young women champions coming from Zambia, Zimbabwe, India, Honduras, Angola, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Papua New Guinea, will be attending as World YWCA’s delegates, participating in the Youth and Faith Pre conferences, dialogues, panels, sessions in the different networking zones and a Safe Space Hub where other young women will be able to learn, engage and meet global leaders. YWLT16 Myanmar Young women leadership training held in Yangon, Myanmar Jun 22nd -July 2nd First HRC Youth Forum On 10 June 2016, approximately 120 young leaders, aged 30 years and below, from the different regions of the world gathered at the United Nations (UN) in Geneva, Switzerland to raise their voices in regards to different human rights issues and to develop a series of recommendations to be presented in the 32nd session of the Human Rights Council (HRC). This was certainly an historic event, as it was the first time that youth got to formally convene for the HRC and have access to a platform that allowed them to discuss key human rights issues of importance to their lives. Additionally, as the HRC is one of the most important international mechanisms for promoting and protecting human rights from all over the globe, participants developed the youth forum formal declaration that will be presented during the HRC to UN Member States.
